Introduction

OH NO! Someone has snuck into Mr. Greener's flower garden and ruined all of his beautiful plants. He is looking for two experts to come in and help him fix it. But, you must prove to him that you know all about plants and how to take care of them. So today your job will begin as a "Gardner".

Task

You and a partner will see if you have what it takes to become an expert Gardner to help Mr. Greener plant his flower garden again. You will be learning lots about plants, and analyzing all of the information to help get the job done. You and your partner will create a virtual flower garden together. Mr. Greener and I will determine who will become his expert gardener once you can explain:

What are the parts of a plant?
What is the process of a plants life cycle?
What do think would be the outcome if we did not give our plants water, food, or sunlight?

Process

1. Now that you and your partner are

grouped into twos, you will start by watching

the short movie The magic school bus:Get's planted

you may also want to check out the video "From

seed to plant". Click the X on the screen to start the video.

2. You and your partner will take a virtual

tour around Phipps Botanical garden.

Look for different names

of plants in the garden. List 8 or more names

of the flowers you find in the garden.

Whew! What a lot of information to take in. But, we still have more to learn.

Let's move on

3. Look at the labeld sheets, Parts of a plant 1 and "Parts of a plant"

You will want to print a copy for both of you.

It will definitely come in handy later. Also check out

"what plants need to survive."

You are so close to becoming and expert gardener for Mr. Greener, But there is still more you

must prove to us.

4. Take a break and play this game. Let's

see how much you know about plants so far.

5. You and your partner are now ready

to create your own garden using Yates virtual

garden. An account is already set up for you and your

partner, and it can be found on the white board.

The two of you are allowed to

design your garden any way you want, but

remember, Mr. Greener and I are looking for the

best. Pick 2 different kinds of flowers each. Example:

Jim picks 1 bunch daisies and 1 rose bush. Kim picks 1 sunflower,

and 1 bunch tulips.

6. Don't forget to check your flowers every day.

you will want to water them, and make sure that

they are growing properly. By doing this you will use

a graph to keep tract of your flowers' growth.

7. Also use the screenshot button on your

Ipads to take pictures of your flowers's growth. I will

upload all pictures to my computer, for viewing

on the interactive white board after our lesson.
