Imagine living in a time when most products were made by hand and people traveled mainly by walking, riding animals, or using simple vehicles. Then, suddenly, machines, factories, steam engines, and new forms of transportation began changing people's lives.
This period of major change is known as the Industrial Revolution. It began in Great Britain and eventually influenced many parts of the pworld. It changed how people worked, traveled, communicated, and lived.
In this WebQuest, you will become a young historical researcher. Your mission is to investigate how the Industrial Revolution changed society and determine whether its effects were mostly beneficial, harmful, or a combination of both.
Task
Your group will investigate the Industrial Revolution and create a digital or poster presentation entitled:
"The Industrial Revolution: A Revolution That Changed the World"
Your presentation should answer the following questions:
1. What was the Industrial Revolution?
2. Where and when did it begin?
3. What inventions and technologies contributed to its development?
4. How did it change people's work and daily lives?
5. What were its positive effects?
6. What were its negative effects?
7. How did it contribute to the development of modern society?
8. Do you think the Industrial Revolution was mostly beneficial or harmful? Why?
At the end of the activity, your group will present your findings to the class.
Process
Step 1 – Form Your Research Team
Work in groups of 4–5 students. Assign the following roles:
Historian – researches the history and development of the Industrial Revolution.
Technology Researcher – investigates important inventions and machines.
Social Researcher– studies the effects on workers and society.
Resource Manager– gathers and organizes information and sources.
Presenter/Designer – prepares and presents the final output.
Step 2 – Investigate the Topic
Use the provided resources to find information about:

* The factory system
* Changes in transportation
* Changes in agriculture
* Working conditions
* Urbanization
* Effects on society and the economy
Write down important information and record the sources you used.

Step 4 – Create Your Final Product
Create a poster, PowerPoint presentation, or digital infographic.
Your presentation should include:

Each group will have 5–7 minutes to present its output.

Conclusion
Through this WebQuest, students were able to explore and understand the Industrial Revolution and its important role in shaping the modern world. By researching different inventions, changes in transportation, working conditions, and effects on society, students learned that the Industrial Revolution brought both positive and negative changes. It improved production, technology, and transportation, but it also caused problems such as poor working conditions, child labor, pollution, and overcrowded cities.
This activity also helped students develop their research, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. Instead of simply reading about the Industrial Revolution, students were given the opportunity to investigate information, analyze evidence, and form their own conclusions.
