Introduction

Imagine you are a journalist for Wall Street Journal and you are covering a speech that President Trump is giving. Your job is to report on controlled and uncontrolled media and how the public will view the speech after reading stories from both sides. I have attached the speech in which I want you to review.

Task

Your task is to write a news report on the speech provided as an unbiased third party. To begin, write a brief overview of the meanings of controlled and uncontrolled media. Then, discuss the topic of the speech, the President’s view of the specified topic, and reactions that the speech is receiving from the public. Do some research and find articles from an uncontrolled and controlled source in relation to the speech to help you. At the bottom of your article, attach the stories to read to help you identify the difference between a biased and an unbiased story. The goal is to give readers a story that allows them to make their own thoughts and opinions without reading a biased report.

Process

For the process, begin by organizing your thoughts and creating a layout similar to another unbiased news report. I have attached a worksheet to help you organize.

10 points = created a generally unbiased story but still swayed one way

20 points = accurately created an unbiased story

 

Student discussed the topic of speech.

0 points= student did not mention what the speech was about

5 points = student briefly discussed topic of speech

10 points = student went into great detail of what the speech was about

 

Student attached links to story they used in their research

0 points = student did not attach articles

5 points = student did not find enough articles to support their research

10 points = student found an efficient amount of articles to complete task
