Introduction
This WebQuest will help you explore cells as a whole and the part/functions of cells.
Understanding cells, organelles, and the functions of the cells themselves and their organelles is crucial for understanding life. In this activity we are only exploring Eukaryotic cells and their organelles throughout this WebQuest. We will explore Prokaryotic cells in another WebQuest. Then you will be assigned a group of 3 to make a model of a plant or animal cell out of construction paper. You will label all of the organelles in the cell and write their functions on a separate piece of paper or on an online document.

Here is the Indiana State Standard used for this assignment:
MS-LS1-2
Develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell as a whole and ways parts of cells contribute to the function.
Task
First I want you to watch an introduction to cells video from the Amoeba Sisters.
After watching the introduction video, I want you to explore both the plant and animal cell animation as well as read about the organelles on the interactive website:
https://www.cellsalive.com/cells/cell_model.htm
We will spend one class period on this portion of the WebQuest. This will give you time to get comfortable with the organelles and their functions. The next class period we will move on.
Process
Today, groups of 3 will be assigned and you all will choose which kind of cell, plant or animal, your group wants to do. After groups are assigned I will give you 5 minutes to discuss what cell to make a model of.
After those 5 minutes are up, you will be able to grab pieces of construction paper (don't take more than what you need please). These will be what you use to make up your cell and all of the organelles. You will be provided with a list of organelles that must be included in your model depending on which cell you are doing. You may you the website, https://www.cellsalive.com/cells/cell_model.htm, along with any other reliable website you may want to use.
As you create your cell model, make sure you are labeling organelles and recording their functions on another piece of paper or an online document. Make sure your model is neat, easy to read, and easy to understand as these will be presented to the class.
You will have 2 days to make your model and the next class period I have you, groups will start to present to the class.
If you have any questions as you work, don't hesitate to ask!

Evaluation
I will print out separate rubrics for your model and the presentation.
Your model will be 50 points that will be made of how neat the model is (10 possible points), if it is labeled correctly (5 possible points), if you have included all necessary organelles (15 possible points), and if you have the function of the organelles page and if the functions are correct (20 possible points).
The presentation will be 20 points. This will include if you spoke loud and clearly (5 possible points), if all members spoke (5 possible points), and if it sounded like you knew the information that you were saying (10 possible points).
Your group partners will also fill out a partner participation form for you. This will tell me if you did your part in the group project and this will be taken into consideration for your grade.

Conclusion
After presentations are complete, please submit your WebQuest to canvas. We will continue to learn about cells and their functions including Prokaryotic.
