Web Quest for Pre-K: Identifying Letters and Sounds

Introduction

This Web Quest is designed to help Pre-K children identify letters and sounds in a fun and interactive way. Letter sound recognition is a very important factor in learning how to read. This Web Quest will allow students to utilize interactive games that will focus on identifying letters and letter sound reviewing.

Task

You are going on a Web Quest! Your job is to review letters and letter sounds. Enjoy playing games, identifying letter sounds in words and have fun! The Web Quest should be completed with minimal adult assistance and can be done individually or in small group.

Process

1. First you will review the letters of the alphabet and letter sounds by using Starfall.

  • Can you identify the first letter in your name?
  • What sound does it make?
  • What are some more words that start with that letter?
  • What letter comes before the letter in your name?
  • What sound does it make?
  • What letter comes after the letter in your name?
  • What sound does it make?
  • Can you match the letter to the beginning sound of each picture?

2. Next you will log into your Reading Eggs account and finish your assigned lessons.

Evaluation

I will evaluate students individually or in a small group by using the rubric below. 

 

Letter Sound Rubric

Beginning = 1 Developing = 2 Mastered = 3
Follows Directions Has difficulty following directions. Has some difficulty playing games but is able to do with teacher/adult assistance. Is able to follow directions and play game by self.
Identifies Letters and Letter Sounds Cannot match any letters to the correct picture to identify the letter sound Can match some letters to the correct picture to identify the letter sounds. Is able to match all letters to the correct picture to identify the letter sounds.

Yay! You have completed your Web Quest! You have learned a lot about letters and letter sounds in a fun interactive way.

Each child should have an increased knowledge of letters and sounds through this enjoyable technology based experience.
