Introduction
This webquest will help you be ready for the water density experiment. Please refer to the lesson plan 2. Prior to the next lab activity, please be familiar with the concept of density and know how to find the density. Also, thorough the webquest activity, you will understand the difference between mass and volume as well. Have fun!
Task
What you will learn
- What the density is
- What other physical quantities affect water density
- Units for physical quantities (mass, volume, and density)
- Use of measuring tools to find those physical quantities
Process
Now, please take out your notebooks and a pencil. Please answer the main questions from each activity on your notebook.
Activity 1:
What is the density?
What other physical properties do we need to find the density of water?
Activity 2:
What do other physical quantities affect water density?
Explain how do they affect density.
Activity 3:
What are possible SI units for mass, volume, and density?
Please write down at least 3 SI units for each physical properties.
Activity 4:
Familiarize yourself with using a triple beam balance and a graduated cylinder.
We will use a triple beam balance and a graduated cylinder. Please be prepared to use them in our lab activity.
What physical property can you measure using a triple balance beam?
What physical property can you measure using a graduated cylinder?
Evaluation
There will be a short quiz in the next class. The quiz will be about water density that you learned in this webquest.
