Introduction
Walter Dean Myers describes his childhood in the book we are about to read, "Bad Boy: A Memoir." He grew up in Harlem, New York, in the 1950s. What exactly was life like in Harlem during this time? You will complete the webquest to find out how this rich culture shaped the young life of Walter Dean Myers.

Task
Your task is to create a brochure detailing particular aspects of Walter Dean Myers' life and Harlem in the 1950s. The information in the brochure should be in complete sentences, not in bullet points. The following information MUST be included in the brochure:
You will select THREE of the following to research include in your brochure:
- New York boroughs
- New York's Garment district
- Music of the 1950s
- Integration of the Brooklyn Dodgers
- Langston Hughes
Process
You will work independently on this project. This will prepare you for the book we are about to read in class.
Step 1: Take detailed notes as you are researching. It is sometimes hard to go back and find where you found previous information if you don't write down website information. Your information on the brochure should be in your own words -- not plagiarized.
Step 2: Start putting the information together in brochure format. The basic outline will be provided for you, but you can take creative liberty to make it unique.
Step 3: Proofread for errors. Does it make sense?
Step 4: Turn in your brochure to your teacher. Please don't forget to put your name on it!
Evaluation
Your brochure will be evaluated based on completion of task and required elements.
