Virginia's Key People in the American Revolution

Introduction

We are beginning our study of Virginia's Contributions During the American Revolution. We have learned about the major conflicts between the colonies and Great Britain and the events that led up to the fighting. We are now going focus in on a few interesting Virginians who made significant contributions during this time.  For the next two weeks, you are going to complete a webQuest on four important Virginians and one French Nobleman who made contributions during the American Revolution. You will be learning about George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, James Lafayette, and the Marquis de Lafayette! Get ready to discover these amazing men and what they did to help win the American Revolution and set Virginia and the other colonies free!

You will research each of these men with the links that are provided. After you have researched all five important and fascinating men you will complete the activity sheet (found in your Google Classroom) explaining what that person's role was during the Revolution. The goal is to have fun, learn about these important men in Virginia's history (and the country's), and find something a little interesting about each one!

Step 1:

Begin your investigation by clicking on one of the links below. You may begin with whomever you wish.

Step 2:

While you are watching/or reading about a person, take notes. Remember you are looking for what they contributed during the American Revolution (Revolutionary War) and an interesting fact on each person.  You will be provided many links to use. You do not have to use all of the links. Use only what you need. 

Step 3:

Complete the activity sheet provided to you (located on your Google Classroom) after you have completed your investigation. Make sure you view the Evaluation tab to see how you will be evaluated on this activity.. 

Step 4:

When you are satisfied that your work is complete and meets the criteria set out in the Evaluation tab, submit it on Google Classroom.

Step 5:

Remember to have fun! Spread your work out (do a little each day). You will enjoy it more that way.

VS.5b - The student will demonstrate knowledge of the role of Virginia in the American Revolution by identifying the various roles played by whites, enslaved African Americans, free African Americans, and American Indians in the Revolutionary War era, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and James Lafayette.

Differentiation:

The webQuest will be translated into Spanish for ELL students. The teacher will also ensure that students with IEP accommodations (Read Aloud, Scribe, etc..) are provided with these to be successful with this assignment.
