Verbs are powerful. They make you experience the story and can change a boring writing assignment to one that is vivid and enjoyable. The prerequisite to using good verbs is clear instruction as to what a verb is. The games and activities included in phase one are self-correcting and target comprehension of verbs both in and out of a sentence framework. All activities at this level have automatic feedback, which has been linked to mastery. Phase one can be completed with or without teacher input, though it is always advisable to monitor student progress.
