Various World Religions

Introduction

6th grade Social Studies class: This lesson will just take one class period of 30 minutes. The entire unit will be covered in the course of two weeks. Our introduction will be a quick glimpse of various world religions with key facts about a few of the ones we will be covering in the next two weeks.

Do you recall the World Regions we covered in class? If you looked at the map, would you be able to point to at least two of the regions?

Now think for a moment, how many of you know someone that celebrates a holiday you and your family do not. Do you ever wonder, why they celebrate it? What is one holiday you and your family celebrate and why?

Task

The following objectives will be our main focus. By the end of this lesson you will have an idea of various world religions that exist, and be able to do the following:

  • Identify at least three major world religions and what country they originated in
  • List two sacred books for two different religions and the symbol that represents each one

This will encourage all of you to look at other cultures and learn about their religions, holidays, and other interesting facts.

Process

To begin, let's review unit we just finished covering. Click on link below and quiz yourself. This is not for a grade, just to see how many regions of the world you remember.
