US Money

Introduction

Think about all of things and toys that you'd love to have!  What's it take to have those items?  If you guessed money, you're correct.  Now, what's the good of having money if you don't know how to use it?

You're going to be going through current United States currency (that's a fancy word for money).  You'll learn what each coin is and it's value, and you're also going to see all the paper money available.  By the time you're through with this, you're going to be counting money like a banker!

Task

The class will be broken up in to 5 groups.  Everyone will be given identical worksheets, but each group is going to research one assigned task regarding our current math lesson on money and how we use it.  Each group will have to complete their specific task using the websites and videos that I've assigned you on this WebQuest.  Once, each group has completed their assigned task, we will come together as a class to discuss all the information gathered.

Process

The 5 tasks will be as follows:

     1.  Identify each coin and tell what it's value is.

     2.  Find out where coins are made in the United States.

     3.  Identify each of the paper currency and tell which president is on each.

     4.  Find out where paper money is made in the United States.

     5.  Successfully count money by skip counting.

Each group will be assigned a video or website to use to assist with their task.

Once your group has obtained the required information to complete your task, explore the site or watch the video again.  Find something else interesting to share from the video or website your group explored.

Remember, this is a group project.  Everyone needs to be working together, and each group should come up with the same answers.  This is a team building assignment.

You and your teammates need to decide who is going to present the information.  Everyone needs to be involved in some part of the presentation.

Once every team has presenting their findings, you should all be able to successfully count money, which is a very important life skill.
