The United States

Introduction

Are you ready to go back in time on a journey? There will be two different theories on how the United States started. We are going to be given facts and clues to figure out how the United States came to be. The historian that is within us will figure out these facts and clues to prove which theory of how the United States started is true. Are you ready to be in a historian?

Task

The class will be divided into two groups of ten. The students will be given a theory with one being true and one is false of how the United States started. Each theory will have five different facts underneath. The students will know that one theory is true and the other one is false. The students will have five different pieces of evidence with their theory. The students just have to prove if they are correct and go with the theory to show if their theory is true or not.

Process

Once the students have gotten everything they need for the project we as a class will follow this process:

1. Give students time to read the theory, facts, and put together their evidence pieces.

2. Have students ask their questions if there is any confusion.

3. Let them piece together their evidence according to time order.

4. The evidence if they put it together correctly should lead them to prove if their theory is correct or not.

5. Once the students prove if the theory is right, then the teacher explains how it is correct.

6. Have a history book cake once the project is over.

Evaluation

The students will be graded or evaluated on if they understood how the evidence pieced itself together to show how the United States came to be. Below is a list from the rubric:

1. Time Management: 10 points

2. Worked Together as a Group: 15 points

3. Individual Participation: 15 points

The purpose of the WebQuest was to show the students in a different way how the United States came to be. I wanted to give them multiple ways of learning it so it would stay in their long term memory. The skills from this WebQuest will help the students in the future of having history classes or if a history TV show comes on they would be able to comprehend it.
