It is well known that nowadays we are used to use modern devices to facilitate every stage of our daily lives. But lets imagine if all that technology and gadgets just dissappear and we have to go back to the old lifestyle were the only technology we could afford, for entertaining, was a radio.
Before reading the text "The 1940's" on page 42 and 43. First look at the following image and try to guess where it had been taken and compare it with the way you usually see people travelling on public transport.

After seeing the image discuss with your classmates and answer this question:
"How many differences are between the people on the photo and today?"
Once you finished sharing your ideas you can start reading the text and then discuss with your classmates and answer the following questions.
"Which modern possessions would you miss if you lived in the 1940's?"
"Why did the family consider that old times were hard but at the same time they liked that kind of lifestyle?"
"What things from the 1940's would you like to bring back to the present?"
Task
The task will be divided into 2 parts:
1) Form groups of four and make a research about how families from San Salvador de Jujuy used to live at 1940's, then write a new version of the same experiment but based in San Salvador de Jujuy. (no more than 200 words)
2) Each group should prepare a short dialogue based on 1940`s. The dialogue will be about some tourists who want to visit San Salvador de Jujuy. You have to give reasons of Why it is a good idea visiting it.
Context
Each group will have to prepare a draft and use their creativity in order to performe their dialogues.
You can use different materials in order to decorate your performance.
Process
Process and resources
- Read the text again and reflect on the differencies between 1940's in U.S.A and Argentina
- Think about the different difficulties in which both countries were going through.
- Use different sources of information and add them to your presentation.
Product
Each group will present the performance of a dialogue they have prepared and the rest of their classmares have to keep silence and listen.
Take notes about the following aspects of each presentation in order to formulate questions and give feedback.
- Material used
- How many difficulties they went through at the production?
- Things that can be improved.
- Etc.

What aspects of your performance can be improved?
Conclusion
A great strategy in order to engage students to a certain context are the performing or role-playing, to develop communicative habilities, problem solving, promote retention of information, and stimulate creativity.
