Unit 1 - Our world: Everyday life

Introduction

IES N°4 Introductory Course

Unit 1 coursebook “Insight” Pre-intermediate Student’s Book and Workbook by Wildam J. and Beddall F. 2014 – Oxford University Press.

It is interesting to think about the things that make each of us special, like our ideas, traditions, and stories. At the same time, it is amazing to see how we are connected to people around the world, even if their lives and cultures seem very different from ours. We all share similar feelings, challenges, and dreams, which shows how we are part of one big and connected world.

Before reading the text "Life in a Day" on page 4, think about the following questions and share your ideas with your classmates:

1-What do you love?

2-What do you fear?

3-What makes you laugh?

4-What's in your pocket?

Once you finish sharing your ideas with your classmates, watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2k4nIARvS8 and read the text. Then, compare them with your answers.

1-What differences do you notice between people's answers and yours?

2-What emotions or thoughts does the movie inspire you? Why?

Task

The task will be divided into three parts:

  1. In groups of no more than four students, write down ideas about what is a memorable moment from your daily life, and values or cultural aspects that are reflected in your routines. Also, research information about other student's daily life in other continent, such as Asia, Africa, Europe, taking into account unique moments, universal experiences (like eating) and surprising cultural practices.

  2. Then, watch the video included in the introduction again and create a dialogue using the context below. Get ready to role-play. Use your imagination and by creative.

Context: There are students from different countries. They are part of a global documentary project. The goal is to show what a typical day looks like for students like them, highlighting both the differences and similarities in daily routines, activities, and experiences across cultures.

  3. Record the video and edit it using CapCut, Moviemaker or Inshot. Add images, subtitles, sounds, and music if possible.
