Understanding the differences in Cognitive Psychology, Behaviorism, and Social Cognitive Theory

Introduction

You and your friends are the head researchers at a top secret organization designed to train the future generations of people. In this top secret organization, your job as head researchers is to discover ways of training the next generation of people to be the best people they can be in a way that specializes in that person's strengths. Recently, many of the head teachers in the organization have quit recently due to a lack of results from their students and the big boss has hired a new set of teachers to take their place. The only issue: none of them have a lot of experience.

Task

Your task is the following:

. You and your friends research about: Cognitive Psychology, Behaviorism, and Social Cognitive Theory. Make sure that all of these are researched thoroughly. (if there are three or more researchers, choose one each to research about).

. Take notes about what you learn about each one.

. Discuss your notes with your friends and what your think each one means.

. Discuss the similarities and differences between each one.

. Create a three ring Venn Diagram to compare and contrast these.

Once the Venn Diagram is complete, we can show this to the new teachers and help them teach our future generation of students.

Process

Learn about the three terms by following these links. Once you have sufficiently gone through all of these links, talk with your fellow researchers about what you have learned.

Evaluation

In this Venn Diagram, label the three terms listed. Define then in a way that would make sense to someone who has no prior knowledge of any learning theories. Compare and contrast each of the three terms in a way that you know what each one means and what ways they are effective to teachers.

Conclusion

You give the completed Venn Diagram to the new teachers. Using the knowledge they now know, the future students have a far greater chance at success. Well done!

Things to discuss/think about:

. What have you learned about Cognitive Psychology, Behaviorism, and Social Learning Theory?

. Now that the teachers know about these learning theories, what ways can they improve their teaching abilities?

. Now that you have learned about these theories, what ways can you improve your own learning experience?
