Introduction

A Trip to Quebec!⚜️

By: Rachel Monk, Tracy Le Rouzes and Nicolette Giannarelis-Petsis

This is a really fun and exciting way for you to learn about French-speaking communities in our country. This webquest will allow you to work at your own pace with a partner or in a small group (3-4 people). While using the tools provided, you will be conducting your own research to learn about various cultural aspects in the province of Quebec. Additionally, this webquest will teach you general planning skills as you prepare for your visit.

Canada is a great country with lots to offer. It is the second largest country in the world and it is made up of five regions; the Atlantic Provinces,  the Prairies, Central Canada, the Northern Territories, and the West Coast. Central Canada consists of two provinces; Ontario (where we live), and Quebec (where you will be visiting). Quebec is the home of the Québécois (French Canadians). Each year, the Québécois host and celebrate le Carnaval de Québec which encompasses many of their beliefs, values and overall traditions. It is known as the world’s largest winter festival and spans over the course of 17 days. Your job is to plan a week-long vacation for a family of four (4). The family can consist of any family members (parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and/or siblings).

Task

Choose a minimum of five (5) questions to answer:

  1. What do you need to pack?
  2. What would you like to eat?

  3. Where will you stay?

  4. How will you get there? How long will it take for you to get there?

  5. Which activities would you like to do?

  6. Which attractions would you like to see?

  7. What interesting fact did you just learn about?

Process

Instructions:

  1. Make a group of 3 or 4.

  2. Research Le Carnaval de Québec. Think about the questions from “Task” while you research.

  3. Choose 6-8 things that you want to do, visit, or eat at Carnaval. Each group member should pick 2 things.

  4. Write 1-2 sentences (or more if you want) in French describing each of the things you want to do. (Check the word wall for hints!)

  5. Draw pictures or find photos of each activity you want to do.

  6. Practice reading your sentences. You will present your plan to the class. Each group member needs to present at least 2 activities.

  7. Which words do we need to know in French?
