Introduction  

 

Trees are an important part of our world. They provide wood for building and pulp for making paper. They provide habitats (homes) for all sorts of insects, birds and other animals. Trees also help to keep our air clean and our ecosystems healthy.  We breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Trees breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. There are two parts to completing this Webquest. You will be working independently and in assigned groups. 

The first part of this webquest will be done independently to gather information about tree and to answer a few questions to make sure you have a good understanding of the topic.  

For the second part of this webquest, you will be working in a group of three to create a poster illustrating each parts of a tree. In addition, as a group, you will write a brief explanation of each part and present it to the class.  

Use the websites listed in this webquest to help you gather information and answer questions.

First, work individually, and use the following websites to complete the Trees Worksheet listed below.

At this website, http://www.kidzone.ws/plants/trees.htm you will find out more information about tree and it’s part. Read the description, and then answer these questions.

  1. How many types of trees ? mention each types !
  2. Mention  parts of tree !
  3. What is part of tree which converts energy into food (sugar) ?
  4. What is the scientific name for the inner layer of bark ?
  5. What is the part of the tree that makes new cells

After completing the worksheet, get into your assigned groups and create a poster that illustrates the parts of tree. Use the information you gathered from your research to complete the poster.

The poster should include:

  1. All parts of the tree.
  2. A brief description of each part should be listed.

Learning is an on-going process. It is therefore useful to incorporate technology in teaching practice so as not wasting its effectivity in the lesson. This webquest aims to provide both meaningful and fun way of learning about tree. This strategy plays a very crucial role in reinforcing learning in the classroom.

Modern teachers are realising the benefits of this new approach in the teaching-learning process. We are looking forward to a successful and significant change that this activity will brought in the use of technology in teaching. This tool not just to help teachers to facilitate and make learning easy but for the students to enjoy the process of learning and guide them to realise what role they should participate in the success on their education
