Task

You will be asked to find out the three most populated cities in Ohio. (You may be close to one of them.) Once you have figured out what those three cities are you will be asked to visit all three of them traveling by train.

First, you will determine which city to visit first based on our school's location. In other words, we will be starting at the city we are closest to.

Second, you will determine the best route to get from city to city and calculate the total distance you will have traveled.

Next, you will research the city's flag you will be visiting. You will illustrate them and then color them.

Lastly, you will be asked to do some digging and find one local newspaper article for each of these cities and write about what you have found.

Now please go to the Process page to complete the assignment!

After that,

Next,

you will use map skills to determine the total distance you will travel on your trip across country.

TASK #1:

Using the map provided (looks like the one below) you will begin at your departure point, and highlight the most direct route to get to each of your destinations by using Interstate Highways .

**Note: Use a pencil first to determine your route before marking with the highlighter. Treat it much like a maze that you must find the exit to.

Using different highlighters, highlight the most direct route along Interstate Highways.

Once your route is highlighted, you will use the mileage legend at the bottom of the map and a ruler to measure the approximate distance in miles from one destination to the next.

Since the Interstate Highways are not perfectly straight and lining the ruler up exactly would be impossible, just measure the distance as a straight line between all the major cities the Highways run through along the way.

When you have calculated the total distance in miles from one destination to the next, turn your map over and record the distance using a complete sentence. Then, add up the individual distances and write a complete sentence recording the total miles that will be traveled for the entire trip.

While you stop at each city remember to find out the city flag. There may be multiple sources that give different flags. Use your best researching skills to judge the source and determine what you believe is legitimate. You will then draw the flags using construction paper and markers.

The last part of your assignment requires you to take a look at what is going on today.

Using google.com you will search for the newspapers in each of these cities.

Go to each newspaper's website and find their "local news" section.

Find an article of local interest and record the following information about the article:

  • Name of the newspaper
  • City the newspaper is in
  • Title, author, and date of article
  • Five sentence paragraph on your thoughts and opinions of the article and whether you find it "news worthy"
