Task

ACTIVITY 1

Write a book review which will be posted on your TEEN LIFESTYLE BLOG.

Your review should be 180-200 words in length.

Process

Use the 5 steps below to guide your writing.

STEP 1: DETAILS

Provide all relevant details; title, author, illustrator, publisher, date of publication (if possible) and ISBN.

Hint 1: Do not count the words used in STEP 1 as they are not are not regarded as part of your content.

Hint 2: Your tone and register should stay in line with the outlet where you are posting the review.

STEP 2: SUMMARY

Open with a brief summary of the book that does not give away the whole story, this forms your first paragraph.

Hint: Do not let the summary take over the review.

STEP 3: EVALUATION

Follow with two paragraphs in which you describe the strengths and the weaknesses of the book. You do not have to include both. If, your opinion has no weak points, then you cannot write about them! These paragraphs will be subjective because it is your personal response to the book.

Hint: Use examples to support your points - include excerpts from the book to demonstrate your point.

STEP 4: RECOMMENDATION

Conclude with an overall appraisal of the book. Do you recommend it? Why? To whom?

Evaluation

Use the rubric for the transactional writing as a guide when you write your book review as this will be used to grade your task.
