Hello students! The purpose of this Webquest is to investigate the Trail of Tears. The Indian Removal Act was signed into law by President Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830, authorizing the president to grant unsettled lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within existing state borders. A few tribes went peacefully, but many resisted the relocation policy. During the fall and winter of 1838 and 1839, the Cherokees were forcibly moved west by the United States government. Approximately 4,000 Cherokees died on this forced march, which became known as the "Trail of Tears."  I will need 6 roles in each group:

  1. Cherokee Member
  2. President Andrew Jackson
  3. Seminole Member
  4. Choctaw Member
  5.  Creek, Member
  6. Chickasaw Member

Conclusion

Great job on the Journal Entries!  Our learning doesn't have to stop here, continue researching information on the Trail of Tears.  Pick another person to be from your list and write a letter explaining an alternative solution to the problem.  Your letter should include facts and reasons the Trail of Tears didn't have to occur.  Share it with me in a Google Doc.  Here are some more resources to use in your research:
