The Assassination of John F. Kennedy and the Civil Rights Movement

Introduction

This lesson is intended to instruct 8th grade students on the components of the computer and specific websites to gather information on the Assassination of President John Kennedy and the Civil Rights Movement

Task

Students will go back in time to the Civil Rights Period and the year of Kennedy's assassination. Students will assume the role of  a press member or newspaper reporter and use technology to express the mood of the United States and the American people when this pivitol event took place.

Process

Students have been given an assignment to interview American citizens as they  cover the funeral of President Kennedy and create a brief editorial on how this tragedy directly affected  the Civil Rights Movement.

Evaluation

Student evaluation will be determined by the creativity, spelling, grammar, use of visual aids, information, class participation,project reflection and components, and oral summation and presentation.

Is the presentation creative?-10

Is the information on Kennedy's funeral accurate?-10

Are both components-Kennedy's Assassination and the Civil Rights Movement-a properly reflected within each students contribution to the assignment?- 25

Did the student engage in equal group and individual participation?-10

Did the student maintain the proper use of grammar, spelling, and punctuation? 10

Was the oral summation meet or exceed all criteria with well chosen information that is appealing and relevant?-25

How did prominent Civil Rights Leaders view Kennedy in relation to the Civil Rights Movement?

How did Civil Rights Leaders react and respond immediately following Kennedy's Assassination?

What were the lingering affects and major changes in the Civil Rights Movement regarding  Kennedy's assassination?
