Design your own playground!

Introduction

Playgrounds have been around for many years, entertaining children and creating fun experiences. They have many shapes and figures that incooperates mathmatical things without anyone even noticing.

This webquest will allow you to be creative and design your own playground! You are going to have some fun while creating this playground!

Task

You are creating a floorplan for a playground. For this webquest you will be able to choose ONE partner to help design your playground. You will be given 2 weeks (due date: January 31) to complete it and that includes time in class with your partner.

Process

In this webquest you are going to imagine that you are working for a building construction company and you are given the oppurtunity to design the playground that is going in the new park. You are going to make the floor plan of it and and find the area of each object you are putting into the playground. You are given a minimum of 2,500 and a maximum of 4,500 sq. feet  to design this playground. In square footage you will need to have at least 5 sets of playground objects.

Your playground MUST include:

  • a sandbox
  • 2 slides (one straight and one tube)
  • a see-saw (find the area that the see-saw takes up, the length of it and the width)
  • monkey bars (find the area of how much space it takes up)
  • swing set (find the area by finding how much space it takes up)

You might need to add more equipment to reach the required space you need to take up.

You must have a paper copy of the floor plan of the playground.

You will also need a spreadsheet of each object you put in the playground.

You will need to find the area of each object. You CANNOT make up the dimensions you will NEED to look up the actual demensions for each thing and make sure it is a reasonable size. After you have found the area that the object takes up you will subtract that number from 4,500 sq. feet. If you go over the amount or don't use enough space you will get MAJOR points off.

You will NEED to present this in front of the class (2-3 minute presentation)!!!

If you are trying to find the area of the see-saw or an object that is a weird shape you must find the amount of space it takes up. You will find the length of the see-saw (or other object) and the width and multipy it.

Evaluation

This is how you are going to be graded on your project!

Be sure to included everything stated in the process tab!!

CATEGORY 4- Went Beyond the Requirements 3- Made Requirements 2- Barely Made Requirements 1- Did Not Meet Requirements
Prepared On Time Everything was turned on the due date. Somethings were turned in but not everything. One or two parts of this project were turned in but not the major portion. Nothing was turned in on time.
Presentation Loud and clear. Did not stutter. Between 2-3 minutes. Clear presentation. Could hear but not clear enough. Only stutters a few times. Between 2-3 minutes. Loud enough but not clear. Frequent stuttering. Slightly short of 2 minutes. Not clear or loud enough. Stutters after every word. Not between time requirements.
Partner Evaluation Worked together. Equal work was put into the project from each person. Worked together but one person did a little less than the other person. Helped but one person did not complete nearly the amount they said they would. One person did all the work.
Included Everything That Was Needed Designed the playground. Included everything that was needed in the playground. Created a spreadsheet of each object in playground. Subtracted the amount of space given to the area of each object in the playground. Floor plan was created. Included everything but one thing. Only included a few things. Nothing was there that was needed.
Correct Information Was Given Found the dimensions of each object and found the correct area. Found the dimensions of each object but did not find correct area. (Vise-Versa) Did not give correct information. No information was given.

Credits

I decided to create this webquest because i thought it would be a fun project to find the area of how much each object in a playground takes up but also being able to design your own playground. It gets your brain to work but also allows you to have fun with it!
