Are They Heroes?

Introduction

 

Have you ever been in danger or needed help? We all have faced a situation that we could not handle alone and we turned to look for help or a HERO!

In this task, you will embark on a journey to discover th truth behind the lives of some famous Americans. Were they heroes? You and your team will decide and present you findings to the class.

Task

So What are We Going to DO?

As a class we are going to identity the characteristics of a hero and heroic actions. Using a list you are goin to review a biography of a famous American. Using this person, you will discuss their "heroic" qualities in your group. You will create a mind map that shows what makes this person a hero.

Step 1:

You will work in small groups to deteremine what you think makes a hero. Use the following websites to define the word "hero"

Step 2:

Were they heroes? From a list of preselected individuals, select two to research. By clicking on their name below will take you to a website with more information. (please be sure to take notes from your reading.)

Step 3:

Using exploratree.com, complete a "facts and opinions" template mind map. Discuss what information from the biography is fact and what is an opinion.

Step 4:

In your group, you will need to come up with at least 4 qualities that a hero must have (i.e. courage). You will create a poster board that includes your 4 character traits, your heroes, and your mind map (fact/opinion map). Here are a list of things you should include in your illustration:

1.) Picture of the hero you selected and pictures of things a hero might do. (google)

2.) Fact/Opinion Map

3.Your hero character traits written in a creative way.
