Introduction
Do you feel comfortable using technology in your classroom? What do you consider as technology tools?
Come and explore the pedagogy behind technology in the classroom and learn some new ways to engage and explore with your students.
Task
Your principle has recently attended a conference where he learned about how technology could support critical pedagogy in second language acquisition. He has asked you and your team to reserach the following technology tools and ideas for future use:
Web 2.0
Flipped Classrooms
Virtual reality
Games
Apps
Process
Each team member has a specific role to use as perspective for evaluating the various technologies. All members should research the technologies based on their role, and report back to the group, highlighting the one they think fits the best based on both the TIM matrix for Teachers and the TIM matrix for students. After all members have reported, decide on one that fits most of the criteria for your teachers and your ESOL students.
Evaluation
This presentation will be a group grade. Each member must participate and contribute.
After your group has determined the best technology for the school to look into for their ELL population, you will create a five to ten minute presentation highlighting the benefits of the areas you researched.
Group members will also write individual reflections, no more than one page, of how the research helped you think about critical pedagogy and how you will use this in your classroom with your English Learners.
Conclusion
Congratulations!
You successfully researched new technologies to support critical pedagogy in your classroom. Don't forget to utilize many opportunities for your students through self directed learning and technology.
