Temperature Changes/Precipitation

Introduction

Temperature Changes/Precipitation

WebQuest

You are going to be a meteorologist for the day. You are going to understand the different types of precipitation, how temperature affects their form, and what they do to help or hurt the environment. You will have to complete the following tasks: RESEARCH the water cycle, IDENTIFY types of precipitation, EXPLORE the role of temperature, INVESTIGATE what precipitation does to the environment, STUDY extreme weather events that involve precipitation, and CREATE a presentation of what you learned. After completing this WebQuest, you will have a great knowledge on all things precipitation!

Task

RESEARCH   - Look into the water cycle and its different stages.

IDENTIFY  - Be able to identify and know the difference between the different types of precipitation.

EXPLORE - Research how temperature affects what type of precipitation falls.

INVESTIGATE - Watch this video on what precipitation does and where it goes.

STUDY - See the different extreme weather events that involve precipitation.

CREATE - Create a slideshow on google docs presentation of what you learned in each of the other five steps.

Process

Questions you should be able to answer after doing the research on each task.

RESEARCH

- What are the different steps of the water cycle?

- What are the different events that happen during each step of the water cycle?

IDENTIFY

- What is precipitation?

- What are the different types of precipitation?

EXPLORE

- How does the weather affect precipitation?

- What type of precipitation falls when the temperature is below freezing?

- What type of precipitation falls when the temperature is above freezing?

INVESTIGATION

- Where does precipitation go after falling from the sky?

STUDY

- What are the different natural disasters that can occur due to weather?

- How does each natural disaster form?

CREATE

- Does this slideshow show your knowledge of precipitation as a whole?

- Did you give your best effort when creating this slideshow?

Evaluation

Your teacher will evaluate your work based on:

  • Completion of all tasks.
  • Demonstrate a good memory of each task.
  • Creativity and understanding demonstrated in your slideshow.
  • Accuracy in the work completed on the slideshow.
Conclusion

You’ve completed your exploration of precipitation! Now you know how different types of precipitation form and why they’re important. Thank you for the hard work and dedication to your important job as a meteorologist. Great job, Science Expert!
