Title: “Is Climate Change Affecting Our Community?”

Introduction

Have you ever noticed how the weather seems hotter than before, or how floods and typhoons are becoming more frequent? These changes may be signs of climate change. In this activity, you will become young researchers who will investigate how climate change is affecting your community and what actions can be taken to respond to it. Get ready to explore real-world data and discover solutions!

Task

Your task is to work in groups to investigate one aspect of climate change and its impact on your local area.

At the end of the activity, your group will create:

  • A digital presentation (Google Slides, Canva, or PowerPoint)

  • A short action plan suggesting ways to help your community

Your presentation must include:

  • Key findings from your research

  • Evidence (images, graphs, or data)

  • Explanation of local impact

  • Proposed solutions

Process

Step 1: Form Groups

Form groups of 3–5 members. Assign roles (researcher, writer, presenter, designer).

Step 2: Choose a Topic

Each group will choose one:

  • Temperature changes

  • Typhoons and rainfall

  • Flooding or sea level rise

  • Effects on agriculture or daily life

Step 3: Conduct Online Research

Use the provided websites to:

  • Gather at least 3–5 important facts

  • Collect images or data as evidence

  • Take notes in your own words

Step 4: Analyze Information

Discuss within your group:

  • What patterns did you observe?

  • How does this affect your community?

Step 5: Create Your Output

Develop a digital presentation that includes:

  • Title and topic

  • Research findings

  • Visual evidence

  • Suggested solutions

Step 6: Present Your Work

Present your output to the class. Be ready to explain and answer questions.

Resources

Students may use the following online resources:

Evaluation (Rubric)

Criteria Excellent (4) Good (3) Fair (2) Needs Improvement (1)
Research Quality Accurate, detailed, multiple sources used Mostly accurate, some details Limited information Incomplete or inaccurate
Use of Evidence Strong visuals/data support ideas Some supporting visuals Few visuals No supporting evidence
Understanding of Topic Clear and deep explanation Clear but basic explanation Some confusion Lacks understanding
Presentation Skills Very clear, confident, engaging Clear delivery Some difficulty explaining Unclear presentation
Creativity & Solutions Innovative and realistic solutions Practical solutions Limited ideas No clear solutions

Conclusion

Through this activity, you explored how climate change affects your own community using real-world information from the Internet. You learned how to gather, analyze, and present data, as well as propose meaningful solutions. Reflect on this: What is one action you can start doing today to help the environment?
