The Viet Cong

Introduction

The Viet Cong was composed of Vietnamese guerrilla units along with army units who fought for North Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The Viet Cong fought against South Vietnam who were assisted by the United States. Many recruits were young, teenage boys motivated by idealism or the pressure to join.

Our goal is to assist the audience in learning more about who the Viet Cong were and what their role was in the Vietnam War ranging from 1955 through 1975.

Task

The Viet Cong dug tens of thousands of secret, underground tunnels in order to combat their ememy forces. Viet Cong soldiers used these underground routes to house troops, transport communications and supplies, lay booby traps and mount surprise attacks, after which they could disappear underground to safety.

You will be researching the Viet Cong and learning about their tactics, weapons used, uniforms, and how they managed to defeat many forces. Using the links provided, complete the activities on the next page.
