Topic: (Revision) Antonyms and Synonyms.
Key concept: synonym, antonym, beautiful, Hideous, import, buy , sell, Jamaica, Japan.
Focus question: In what way are we alike or different from the people with whom we relate outside of Jamaica?
Objectives:
1. After engaging students in listening to a song about synonyms and antonyms, students should be able to define at least one term ( antonym) or synonym.
2. After placing antonyms and synonyms on interactive chart, students should be able to list at least (4) words from the chart and their antonyms and synonyms.
3. After being involved in a short role play about trading, students should be able to formulate at least five sentences with the antonyms or synonyms the found in the letter.
skills: listening, writing, viewing, speaking.
Instructional aids: audio, charts.
Engaged:
Teacher wil
- sing a song accompanied by an audio about antonyms and synonyms.
- allow students to sing along.
- Will ask students what they heard in the song.
Students will:
- listen keenly to the song
- will sing the synonym and antonym song.
- give their response about what they heard in the song.
Task
Explore:
Teacher will
- Model on a chart by pasting cards on the chart such as beautiful/ pretty this will be place under the synonym side. Then say the synonym for beautiful is pretty. Now if you place pretty on the antonym side can we use beautiful for a different word?
- Teacher will place the class into groups of three.
- give each group a cartridge paper labeled antonym and synonym along with cards of different antonyms and synonyms.
- Will instruct students to work in groups to match the correct card under the correct column.
Students will:
- Will give their responds
- go into their groups
collaborate with each other by placing the correct words under the correct headings in their groups.

- ask students to explain why they place each word under the column they placed them.
Students will:
- Explain why they place the cards under the column they placed them.
Elaborate:
Teacher will
- Split the class up into two groups
- groups: Jamaica Cars R us , Japan Toyota car company.
- Write a list of words on the board.
- Give the Jamaica cars R us group a letter that speaks about trading directed to Japan Toyota company and they will have to fill in the missing words from the ones listed on the board.
- Tell that group to read the letters with the words they put in.
- Instruct the Jamaican Cars R us group to give the letter to the Japan group where they will look among the list of words to find their synonym or antonym. Read the letter with the new words.
- Discuss the letter with students.
Students will:
- fill in blanks with the words provided.
- Find the antonyms and synonyms of words provided.
- Read aloud
- Check to see if the synonyms and antonyms are correct.
Evaluation
Teacher will:
- Instruct students to formulate sentences with at least five words from the letter.
- Randomly choose students to read one of their sentences to the class.
- Give students a work sheet to complete on synonyms and antonyms.
Students will:
- create sentences with words from the letter activity. Then determine whether or not the sentences was properly formulated using the antonyms and synonyms they selected.
- Complete the worksheet in pairs.
Conclusion
In conclusion:
At the end of this lesson students should be able to differentiate between synonyms and antonyms. Also that a lesson cannot be fully effective without the company of technology in it to make it fun and engaging for children. In developing a lesson You also should think about the different learning styles and ensure that they are catered for and technology can assist in many ways.
