Introduction
Today you will be spending time on finding out who Sylvia Plath is.
This will be one of your first informal grades in the new quarter, and will directly tie into the unit "Women Writers" that will begin in the end of November.
We will also start reading her only novel "The Bell Jar" starting....today.
Task
1. Answer the questions about her life.
2. Read/Listen to any poem by her, and answer a few questions about them.
3. Produce a detailed summary of who Sylvia Plath is.
4. Turn this assignment in through Google Classroom.
5. Put in 15 minutes of sustained reading of The Bell Jar
Process
I. From this presentation, answer these questions:
- What is Plath's most famous poem?
- How did Plath ultimately die?
- What disorder did she most likely have?
- How does she describe the disorder?
- Give two examples of what Plath experienced in her marriage.
- Skip slides 7-10
II. After the presentation, continue to this website.
- Skim through this selection of the top 10 poems.
- Choose one, and read the full explanation of what the poem is about.
- Paste the exerpt that they gave you into your document.
- Explain, in your own words, what that excerpt means.
- Find another excerpt, from the same poem and put it into the document.
- Explain how this excerpt continues with the same theme and topic as the previous one.
III. Very Quickly:
Google Search who the "Rosenburgs" are, and why they were executed.
IV. Last Part. Go to this website
- Using the information you have found in the previous sections, and at least TWO new pieces of information from this website, put together a 5 sentence, brief, but detailed, summary of Sylvia Plath. Be Sure to include a. What she struggled with b. Major life events. c. Major accomplishments
V. Make sure to submit your document into google classroom.
