Sustainable living in the Philippines

Introduction

Introduction

Welcome, Eco-Warriors! The Philippines is one of the most beautiful archipelagos in the world, but it is also among the most vulnerable to climate change. Currently, the country ranks 158th out of 180 in environmental sustainability. However, there is hope! Through Filipino values like Bayanihan (community unity), Malasakit (compassion), and Pagtitipid (thriftiness), we can lead a "net-zero" lifestyle that protects our islands for future generations. Are you ready to transform your home and community?

Task

Task

Your mission is to act as a Sustainable Living Consultant. You will work in a team to create a "Green Living Blueprint" for a typical Filipino household. Your blueprint must include:

A Waste Management Plan specifically addressing single-use plastics.

An Energy & Water Conservation Guide using locally available tech or habits.

A "Farm-to-Table" Backyard Plan for urban or rural gardening.

A Community Advocacy Campaign to inspire your neighbors.

Process

Process

Form Teams: Divide into groups of four. Assign roles: Waste Specialist, Energy Auditor, Urban Farmer, and Community Advocate.

Research: Use the Resources section to find specific Philippine laws like the Renewable Energy Act or the Philippine Action Plan for SCP.

Audit: Perform a "Home Sustainability Audit." Count how many single-use plastics your family uses in a day and identify "energy vampires" (unplugged devices).

Develop Solutions:

Waste: Design a composting system for food waste.

Energy: Propose the use of LED lighting or solar DIY solutions.

Food: Choose three native crops (like malunggay or siling labuyo) to grow at home.

Present: Create a digital poster, video, or a Minecraft Education world to showcase your Green Living Blueprint.
