Introduction
It's almost Easter! You may wrap some presents. How much wrapping paper do you need?
It's time for a Webquest to learn about surface area!
7.G.6 I know the formulas for area, volume, and surface area of two and three dimensional shapes.
Task

Task: In this Webquest, you will search the internet to find the necessary information for 7.G.6. This standard is all about surface area.
You will create a note page and flashcards (tomorrow) with the necessary information. By the end of the Webquest, you will have everything that you need to study for your test on Friday.
When you are finished searching the web and collecting information, you will play on Quizlet to help you memorize all the formulas you will need to know.
Objective: I know the formulas for area, volume, and surface area.
Process
Phase 1: Set up Cornell Notes. Title them "7.G.6 Surface Area Webquest". Include the following I can statement - I know the formulas for surface area. Don't forget your heading and dot!
On the left, write:
1. Face Definition
2. Surface Area Definition
3. Cube Faces
4. Cube Surface Area Formula
5. Cuboid/Rectangular Prism Faces
6. Cuboid/Rectangular Prism Surface Area Formula
7. Triangular Pyramid Faces
8. Triangular Pyramid Surface Area Formula
9. Square Pyramid Faces
10. Square Pyramid Surface Area Formula
11. Triangular Prism Faces
12. Triangular Prism Surface Area Formula
Phase 2: Use the link to find the definition of FACE and SURFACE AREA. Record these on the right side of your Cornell Notes.

Use the link to learn about CUBES, CUBOIDS/RECTANGULAR PRISMS, TRIANGULAR PYRAMIDS, SQUARE PYRAMIDS, and TRIANGULAR PRISMS. Record what you learn about the shape and number of faces and how to find surface area of each on the right side of your Cornell Notes.

Feel free to use the quiz buttons at the bottom of each page to test your knowledge as you navigate through the pages.
Phase 3: Write a summary at the bottom of your Cornell Notes summarizing the connections you find between finding area, volume, and surface area of the three dimensional shapes. Identify any similarities and differences. Identify any tools you can use to help you memorize the formulas. Color in your dot.
Phase 4: Visit Quizlet to see online flashcards for the formulas. Choose Match, Gravity, Learn, Live or Test (or a combination of them) on Quizlet to learn the formulas and definitions until time is called for the end of class.
Evaluation
You will turn in your Cornell Notes on Friday before the 7.G.6 Test.
You will be graded on the following information:
* Did you set up the notes as described?
* Did you describe each left side item in detail on the right as provided by the sites provided?
* Did you include formulas for surface area as necessary?
* Did you provide a detailed summary using complete sentences and seventh grade language explaining connections and memory tools?
* Did you color in your dot as it applies to you?
Flashcards will also be collected on Friday before the 7.G.6 Test.
You will be graded on the the following information:
* Did you copy the cards as they are on quizlet?
* Did you punch a hole and attach with string?
*****Flashcards will be made Tuesday!!!!
Be sure to use your flashcards to study for your test on Friday!!!!
Conclusion
You now have all of the tools necessary for knowing and memorizing the formulas that you will use for the rest of the week.
We will make flashcards tomorrow to review what you learned today!
We will investigate circles Wednesday on PI DAY!!!!
We will look at Kahoot and Quizlet Thursday to review for your test!
By Friday, you will have all of the practice you need to pass your test, but it is up to YOU to memorize all of the formulas for you to use this week.
You can and will pass your test on Friday!
