Your project should include the following:
A. The Job: Choose a job that is of interest to you. Choose a position that is of high interest for you and reasonable for you to attain. You will be using a career interest survey to research your career interests and determine the high school and career pathway it will take to attain a degree for your future.
B. A College or School of Training: Choose a college, and go to the college’s website to see their high school requirements and the G.P.A. it will take to get into the college. If you have decided not to go to college, explain what it will take to begin working in your profession. It is difficult to find the high school requirements on certain college websites. It is recommended you start with finding the admissions tab on the college's website and then click on the Freshman Admissions' tab. If you search the college website enough, you can usually find the classes and ACT/SAT scores you need. List the required GPA and ACT/SAT score you need to get into the college you chose in your project. This step will guide you as you go through high school, so you can make sure you are on course to get into the school you are desiring or your chosen profession.
C. Living Space: Choose an apartment or house in your price range. You can find houses online, in magazines, or in a circular. Determine how much the monthly payment will be for your living space. Include a picture of your living space in your portfolio.
D. Car: Select a car within your budget. Please include the price and the picture of your vehicle. Also, include an estimate of your car insurance.
E. Letter of Interest: Students will use a common template to type a letter of interest to the job of their choice.
F. Items for Daily Living: This part of the project includes everything you need to make your living space comfortable. Some examples are furniture, dishes, towels, linen, and etc. Use the Sunday paper, magazines or circulars to put pictures in your portfolio of some of the items you have chosen.
G. Food: Choose a week during the course of a year and create a menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a full week. This step will help you budget your groceries. Make sure your menu is well-rounded and nutritious. List every meal for seven days. Be sure to include this menu in your portfolio.
H. Clothing: Choose a wardrobe that is best suited for your profession and other clothing you might wear when not working. You can use circulars that come in the weekly paper, catalogs, or the Internet. Be sure to include pictures of clothing in your portfolio. Include the prices of these items in your budget.
I. Odds and Ends: This section of the project is where you will list any items you plan to use for daily living and grooming that are not listed in other areas. For example, you can set aside money for the beauty or barber shop, movies, video games, or other items.
J.Your Budget: You need to have a page that outlines your budget for a whole month or year. Please do whatever is easier for you. Your budget should include your salary, house payment, homeowners insurance, utility bills, car payments, car insurance, groceries, gas, haircut, extracurricular activities, etc. You will not get an “A” on this project if you do not budget correctly. Complete the Budget sheet provided under Process.
K. Summary Page: At this point, you will reflect on the project and any life lessons you have learned. Remember, on the day of presentations, you should dress as your profession. Please put all of this information in order, and bring it to class on the day of presentations. It is not going to be a good idea to wait until the last minute to complete this project. If you can, buy the Sunday paper, it can help you a lot!
Good luck, and have fun looking into your future!
