Introduction
Hello students!
Are you ready to become a meteorologist?
Let's learn about different types of weather and why they occur. Today you will take a deep dive into the atmosphere to understand the earth's weather. You will do so by engaging in different challenges that place you in different weather conditions that you must identify. Then, you must choose what type of clothing or tools you should bring to handle specific types of weather conditions.
Time to begin the adventure!
Task
With a partner, you will be dropped off at two different locations and you must identify the weather condition. After you and your partner identify the weather condition, you must decide what kind of items you would need to handle that specific kind of weather. Pay close attention to the different types of items that are presented and what weather is occurring!
Once you have completed the challenges, you will watch informational videos to learn more about different types of weather conditions, then answer questions to assess your knowledge.
After you have completed the challenge, watched the videos, and answered the questions, you will record a short video using Flip Link detailing what you have learned while answering some guided questions.

Types of weather:
-You have just been dropped off here! Carefully analyze each video and evaluate what kind of weather is occurring.
-Now that you have watched the two videos let's answer some guided questions!
*Use the google form below to help you determine what type of weather is occurring in the first video.
*Based on your answers for the first video is it a winter storm, raining or a heat wave? Share your answers with the group beside you.
*Use the google form below to help you determine what type of weather is occurring in the second video.
*Based on your answers for the first video is it a winter storm, raining or a heat wave? Share your answers with the group beside you.
Items used for different types of weather:
-Great! Now that you’ve identified the weather, which of these items do you need for the first weather condition?
-Keep going! Identify what items you would need for the second weather condition.

About
This instructional design goes beyond the normal lesson planning. This design is geared towards allowing students to become more comfortable in using different web-tools to construct knowledge. Students must collaborate with other students within their assigned group and outside of their group to help gain a different perspective on the topic.
Driving question: How do we assist students in using different web-tools to broaden their general knowledge about the weather?
Procedure: First introduce the Web Quest to the students explaining to them what the objective is. Then break students off into groups of 3 so that they can complete the different challenges throughout the quest. Once students have completed the challenges and questions accompanied, allow students time to explore other fun informative videos and articles about the weather. While the students are still in groups share a fun Socrative Space Race assessment with them to test their knowledge. Finally, once the space race has been completed guide your students to complete a reflection via Flip link.
Length of time: This Web Quest should last between 45-50 minutes.
Standards
This Web Quest addresses many ISTE Standards as it was the foundation for its completion. Some of the standards that this Web Quest addresses is as follows:
1.3 c. Knowledge constructor: Students curate information from different forms of digital resources, videos and articles, to demonstrate meaningful conclusions.
1.4 d. Innovative designer: Students display a tolerance for ambiguity with the ability to engage with open-ended problems. This is exemplified through the Socrative Space Race and Flip Link reflection which includes open ended questions.
1.7 c. Global collaborator: Students contributed to the project within teams. Each member had a different role while completing various different challenges.
2.3 a. Citizen: Educators provide students with a chance to positively contribute with the community online through the reflection via Flip Link.
2.4 c. Collaborator: Educators use groups to allow students to use collaborative tools such as Socrative Space Race to create authentic learning experiences.
2.7 b. Analyst: Educators implement both formative and summative assessments through Socrative Space Race and Google Form. These assessments include both multiple choice and short answer which accommodates each students needs. Students are also able to receive immediate feedback to each assessment question.
