StoryTelling

Introduction

Storytelling is an important part of our culture. We tend to relay everything we do or experience as a story. However, writing a story needs a bit more structure than relating to your friend the exciting events of you weekends.

We will look at the following elements of a short story for the following activity:

  • Plot
  • Character
  • Setting
  • Point of View
  • Theme
  • Conflict

Understanding why these elements are important will help you write a great story that will keep your readers engaged and interested.

Task

Pretend you are teaching a class of students 7 and 8 years of age.

Create a PowerPoint explaining the elements of a short story. You will be required to use pictures, clipart, audio or videos to make your PowerPoint interesting and fun. Your presentation should include short activities to assist your audience with understanding the concepts (for example, for setting, have the class describe a setting)

Your goal is to ensure that your students understand. In order to teach, you must have a full comprehension of the topics and know how to apply them to a story.

Process

Engage with the following material. Using the information, create a PowerPoint using the Microsoft PowerPoint Tool.

It is one thing to know what you need to include when writing, but applying it to your own short story can be challenging. This is why is it important that you fully understand all the elements of the short story and why they are important; after all it isn't what you write, it's how you write about it.
