Have you ever wondered thought about what life was like before technology? Before phones, cars, air conditioning, and plumbing? What about before housing, law, easily available food, metal, and clothing as we know it today?

Going way back before all of that was known as the Stone Age. During that time humans had it rough, and it's clear to see why.

What did they do for food?

How did they handle the wildness?

How did humans interact with each other?

Let us take a trip back in time to discover the lifestyles of early man.

Standards

SS.6.W.2.1: Compare the lifestyles of hunter-gatherers with those of settlers of early agricultural communities.

SS.6.W.2.2: Describe how the developments of agriculture and metallurgy related to settlement, population growth, and the emergence of civilization.

Welcome time traveler, during your quest you will be joining with 2 other explorers to discover the wild and harsh world of early man.

During this quest, your team will investigate three different sides of what life was like for human civilization thousands of years ago.

The three of you will take different roles to focus on when searching, and that is:

  • Survival investigator: You will discover what early humans did for food, how they got it and the dangers of the wilderness.
  • Technology investigator: You will discover what early humans created to help them survive, what tools they used, and how these tools helped them advanced.
  • Culture investigator: You will discover what early humans did after survival. That is to say what did they believe, what art did they create.
  • You should at least have 3 facts for each category and 1 image and an explanation of the image's relevance to the topic.

1. Using powerpoint you will create the first page which should include the title and names of you and your group members.

2. You will then create three new pages. Each of these pages should be titled "Survival", "Technology", and "Culture". These pages will be used as the basic skeleton of your powerpoint and what information should be in it. You could have more pages for each topic if needed.

3. Using the links provided at the bottom you will use them to research the different aspects of life for early man. You should be able to find information about how humans survived; what they used for shelter and protection, what they ate, and how they got their food. You should also be able to find what they invented and how they helped them advance to civilization. And lastly, you should also be able to find what their culture was like, what they believed and worshiped, and what they created that could be considered art. Using different internet articles is supported but will need to be cited.

4. After researching your should present at least 3 different facts for the 3 categories from the articles you found.

5. Type your findings into your powerpoint into the 3 categories, and be sure to review your information.

6. After the information has been organized, now design your powerpoint with images you find on google images to support your information. Each category should have at least 1 picture and an explanation of the picture.

7. The last page should be a reference page with all your citation. Including references for the information your group's finding. This should include the links already provided, any new articles found and links to the pages of images you have used.

As you found through this webquest, the early history of man was a fascinating one and humans had a long way before they could advance and become what we are today. Whether you thought life for early man was exciting or harsh it should be known that without those early stages of human civilization we would not have gotten where we are now.  Now that you have finished you webquest reflect upon these questions.

-What would you have done if you lived in the stone age?

-What does this information tell us about how far humans have come today?

-How could teach this information to other people?
