The American Occupation of Haiti

Introduction

On July 27th 1915, the president of Haiti at the time was, Vilbrun Guillaume Sam. President Sam ordered that 167 political prisoners killed.  As retaliation, the people of Haiti went into the French Legation which was where President Sam was hiding and committed a lot of violent and disturbing acts in the street for the whole world to see. After this act, The USA felt it was their obligation to intervene in Haiti and also protect its American Property and interest.

Task

The teacher will take the student’s to the computer lab or stay in the classroom if there are enough computers. The students will be given a webquest to work on individually. The webquest will be on earthquakes. Students will follow directions on the webquest that will lead them to a site about earthquakes to obtain information and to answer questions given in the webquest. The questions are to check the students understanding and know that they actually read through the webquest. Students will have the rest of the class period to finish the webquest and hand it in.

Conclusion

The last five minutes of class, the teacher will stop the students from what they are doing and tell them to take out a piece of paper. The teacher will tell the student’s to write a short reflective essay on what they learned through the webquest. This will be their “ticket out” of the class.
