Introduction
Dear 5th Graders,
The U.S. government has created a new program for all middle school students. The program requires that 5th graders choose a career path that they are interested in. Once you enter middle school they will use this information to help you plan your classes. Through this project you will research three careers that interest you and research the pros and cons of each. Once you have completed your research on your specific careers you will create a budget using your number one choice.

Research-
Take notes carefully and thoroughly. Use your own words when taking notes. Do Not Plagiarize! Keep track of every source used for research
Organize note taking under seven separate headings. The categories are:
- Career Description:
- This includes a description of the career itself, skills or tasks that one performs in this career, and any additional information that you feel is relevent to this area..Career Exploration Map- You will complete this map for each career. Map can be found in your folders.
- Education/Training Requirements:Opportunities for Advancement. (Examples: Nurse to nurse trainer; pet store cashier to pet store manager)
- What level of schooling is necessary? Are there any special tests or exams required?
- Are there any physical or personal requirements? (Examples: What level of schooling is necessary? Are there any special tests or exams required?
- Salary/Earnings/Benefits. (Include vacation time, medical benefits, retirement plans, flexible hours, annual pay increases)
- Technology Use (what types of technology are utilized in this career, if applicable)
- Description of “A Typical day in the life of a person in my career choice”
- Bibliography: A listing of all sources must be submitted in proper M.L.A. format.
3.Writing- You will complete a You will complete a writing prompt on the interest skills and values of your career choices. Cover letter- You will compose a one to two page executive summary as a cover letter for your research. In this letter, you should identify and explain the three careers you selected. Explain your thought process in selecting these careers.
Both writing assinments will be given to you in class.
4. Presentation-
Keynote-Your Career Exploration keynote must include the following information and utilize the format described below.
- minimum of 10 slides including title slide with your information as well as pictures and graphics

5.Balanced Budget- You will choose your number one career choice and complete a balanced budget.
