Introduction

Florida had many important explorers visit it's seashore and inland many years ago.  

You will become a crew member for one of the following important Florida Explorers:

Ponce de Leon    

Pedro Menendez de Avilez        

Panfilo de Narvaez        

Hernando de Soto

Jean Ribault      

Rene Laudonniere

In order to be a good crew member, you will need to do in depth research of your explorer, the journey, and the outcome using several resources.

Task

Hello!

You will become a crew member to one of the many important explorers that visited Florida in search of gold, land, spices, or adventure. Your job is to serve your explorer by learning all there is to know about him and his quest.  What will you encounter on your travels?  Will you become an accomplished member of the crew?  Will your exploration run into danger?  Will your lead explorer find what he seeks? You will keep a record of your weekly fates in your ship's journal.

Now that you know why most explorers set sail, you need to learn all about the explorer you are following in order to be a productive member of his crew! Each crew will complete the following:

    • Where is your lead explorer from?
    • Which country are you sailing for?
    • When are you sailing?
    • What is the background of your explorer?
    • What was the original reason for exploration?
    • What are the names of your boats, other people you are sailing with, places you stopped on the way?
    • What exchanges did you make along your journey?
