Introduction
You have just been challenged by your friend to figure out how much money he makes per hour. You have nothing to worry since you already know how to write expressions from word phrases and equations from sentences. This WebQuest is going to help strengthen those skills and by the end of this WebQuest, you will be able to solve one-step equations.
Task
Your friend just received his first paycheck. You ask him "How much did you make?" He responds "$280.50". You ask out of curiosity "How much money do you make per hour?" Your friend said "I worked 30 hours. If you can figure out how much money I make per hour, I will give you $10."
Process

1. You will start off by reviewing how to write an equation from a sentence. Go to this link for your lesson.

2. Now that you have reviewed writing equations, let's solve them. Go to the website and carefully read the information given to you, then answer the given questions

Evaluation
Evaluation will be done by reviewing the "Task" section, showing your work and solving to see what your friend makes an hour.
The next step will be creating your own word problem different from the one in the "Task" section and showing how you would solve.
To receive full credit all work must be completed in "Process" section along with the two items described above on a separate sheet of paper showing all steps.
If only answer is given, student will receive partial credit

Now that you have completed this task, you have reinforced old skills or maybe learned new ones. You will leave this WebQuest with the understanding and knowledge of how to solve equations from word problems. Equations are used everyday in real life. They are used many times without people even knowing they are using them.
