Introduction
Unit 4.2 Solving and Graphing Inequalities
(MS-CCRS Math) - 7.EE.3. Students will solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental math and estimation strategies.
Objectives:
Students will solve inequalities using the Addition Property of Inequality and the Subtraction Property of Inequality.
Students will solve and graph inequalities using the Multiplication and Division Properties of Inequality.
Previous Learning Students should know how to graph inequalities, solve single variable equations, and solve single variable inequalities using whole numbers.
Today, you will work with a partner on completing a WebQuest on Solving and Graphing Inequalities. You and your partner will work together as mathematicians to investigate how to apply the properties of Inequality to solve and graph inequality problems.
Task
For this assignment, your task will be to visit several websites to investigate how to apply the properties of Inequalities to solving and graphing inequality problems. After completing the WebQuest, you will be expected to answer 4 multiple choice questions on solving inequalities. After answering these questions, you will write one paragraph explaining one of the properties
Process
To begin your investigation, you will first enhance your understanding of the Properties of Inequality.
* Start with a visit to the site MathLeaks for a short introduction of the properties: https://mathleaks.com/study/kb/reference/properties_of_inequalities
* After reading over the MathLeaks info, take in a quick video that further explains the properties:
* Continue your journey by practicing a few problems in IXL: https://www.ixl.com/math/grade-7/solve-one-step-inequalities
Now you are ready to write your 1 page essay and take your 4 questions multiple choice quiz!
