SOLAR SYSTEM

Introduction
  • Begin with a brief video or animation showing the planets in the solar system. Ask students: "What do you think it would be like to travel to one of these planets?" or "If you were an astronaut, which planet would you want to visit and why?" This will help students think about space in a creative and engaging way.
Task
  • Each student will choose one planet from the solar system (except Earth) and create a visual presentation about it. The presentation will include facts about the planet's size, distance from the Sun, atmosphere, temperature, and any known moons or features.
Process
  • Guide students through the steps they need to complete the task.
  • Step 1: Choose a planet (except Earth).
  • Step 2: Research your planet. Use textbooks, online resources, and educational websites (e.g., NASA’s official website or other space science websites).
  • Step 3: Gather information such as:
    • The planet’s size, distance from the Sun, and length of a day/year
    • Any moons or unique features (e.g., Saturn’s rings or Jupiter’s Great Red Spot)
    • Atmosphere, temperature, and surface conditions
    • Fun facts or interesting discoveries made about the planet
  • Step 4: Create your presentation. Be sure to include:
    • A creative title
    • At least 3-5 facts about your planet
    • Visual elements (e.g., pictures, diagrams, or models)
  • Step 5: Prepare to present your project to the class. Practice explaining your findings in an engaging way.
Evaluation

Assess students’ understanding of the topic and their ability to present their findings.

Criteria Excellent (4) Good (3) Needs Improvement (2) Poor (1)
Content Accuracy All information is accurate and thorough. Most information is accurate, with minor errors. Some information is inaccurate or missing key details. Information is mostly incorrect or irrelevant.
Creativity Very creative and visually appealing. Some creativity shown; presentation is clear. Little creativity; presentation lacks engagement. Lacks creativity and visual appeal.
Organization Well-organized; clear flow of ideas. Mostly organized with clear structure. Organization is unclear; difficult to follow. Very disorganized and hard to follow.
Presentation Skills Confident, clear, and engaging. Clear, but lacks confidence. Struggles with clarity or engagement. Hard to understand, unprepared.
Conclusion
  • Reflect on what was learned and the process of completing the activity.
