So, what about guns?

Introduction

So, I'm sure you've all heard about the gun debate going on right now in America. Mass shootings, specifically in schools, are a huge problem in this country and there's a lot of debate surrounding the issue. You will have to use a list of sources and information given to you here in order to create your own video with your group about your stances on the topic of common sense gun laws. You can agree with it, disagree with it, or qualify your stance. Whatever you choose, you must include facts to back yourselves up.

This is a good way to practice educating yourself on important Government and policy matters. Not only because you need to learn to evaluate the information you're receiving, but also so that you can put all that information together and formulate your own stance on political topics. Additionally, this is also important because it affects you more than any other generation, and you need to be able to filter information, make sense of it, and be able to make up your own mind.

Task

The task-- what is it?

  • Individually read through the sources provided to learn more about the topic
  • Take notes on the sources, anything that sticks out to you (statistics, laws, etc are helpful)
  • discuss with your group, and come to a consensus
    • if you are unable to come to a consensus, you can present both sides of the argument or qualify your stance (I believe in this stance *IF* )
  • Write up a script for your video, with all group members participation, laying out your argument with evidence cited
  • record and edit video until it's polished
  • have one of your members submit your script, works cited page, and video to drop box with all group member's names on it.

Process

The process is pretty simple, look through the given sources, and learn about the topic. Educate yourself, and come to a stance based on your research. Your video must use evidence from the sources provided, so I suggest that you take notes as you go, as there will be a works cited page required in your video. Other than that, the process is really up to you. What order you look at the sources, how you take notes, or how you organize your thoughts is up to you.
