A Small Version of Humans - Ants

Introduction

Ants are small insects that can be described as small versions of the humanity and today we will take a closer look at their lives and their society throughout three videos. 

Make sure you listen to them carefully and take notes of what you found interesting. 

This activity is aimed for young learners, those in their middle or highschools. With atleast proficiency level of B1.

1-) What are some of the resemblances between the human society and ant society?

4-) How do ants create super colonies?

 

 

5-) Ants alone make up ..... of the entire animal biomass on land.

7-) How do Weaver Ants create their colonies?

 

 

8-) What would happen if ants decide to stop fighting each other and live in peace? Would they become a bigger problem for the other species?

 

 

Process

1-) Finish watching the videos in order while taking notes.

2) Answer the questions depending on what you remember from the videos. If you have any other information beforehand make use of it as well. 

3-) Write a short summary about your ideas and thoughts about ants and humans. Can we learn something from them? Is war really a part of ones daily life? Although we are much more advanced, why cant we get rid of it? Your summary should be between 150-250 words.

4-) Brainstorm with your classmates about these questions and share your thoughts. 

5-) Think of the ants you have seen in your local area and do a bit of research about them to show in the next meeting. 

Evaluation

You will be graded depending on your participation and eagerness. What is important is that you have learned something new today and managed to share it with others. 

Conclusion

In the end, ants and humans are not so different. We have managed to stop the everlasting wars a few decades ago but we are still not out of its grasp. We need to see and learn the destruction the wars leave behind and what could happen if we were to work together. We can see our society in action by just looking down at ants and observe.
