Introduction

Small talk. It all starts with the weather.

Have you ever been to a party where you hardly knew anyone? Chances are you all have.. and haven't like it. In this lesson we will go over some fundamentals on what to do and not to do when you're talking small. 

Process

In this lesson you will begin by going over some important small talk conversations starters. Then you will participate in an oral examination.

Food

  • If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  • What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
  • What’s your go-to comfort food?
  • Are there any foods that you absolutely would not eat?
  • What’s something that’s easy to bring in for lunch that isn’t a sandwich?
  • What are the best cheap eats around here?
  • Does your family have any “secret” or famous recipes?
  • What’s your favorite restaurant that other people don’t tend to know about?

Evaluation

EXAM TIME!! 

  1. Proceed to the front of the room with one other person and begin a conversation using some of the conversation start ups. 
  2. Avoid awkward pauses and transitions
  3. Using their rubrics, the audience will grade your ability to make talk small. 
  4. Have fun!
