Introduction
Set amount of skills are used to play volleyball. Each skill is special and unique in its own way.
To play Volleyball, you should develop the below skill;
- Serving
- Passing
- Spiking
- Blocking

Process
PASSING
In volley ball there are two types of passing
- Underarm Pass or Bump
- Overhead Pass or set
The Under-arm Pass or Bump
This pass is used to receive a serve that gets over the net
- Stand with your feet apart with one foot ahead of the other
- Bend You Knees.
- Place one hand inside the other
- Point your thumb forward side by side
- Keep your elbows straight
- Keep looking at the ball
- Let the ball make contact with both forearms at about chest level
- Straighten your knees as you make the pass

TASK #2
The Overhead or Set Pass
This is executed with both hands open, controlled by your fingers and thumbs and is made just above the forehead.
- Stand with your feet apart with one foot ahead of the other.
- Bend your knees
- Position your hands above your forehead
- Point your elbows outwards
- Keep your fingers apart
- Form a triangle with your thumbs and index fingers
- Look through the triangle to see the ball.
TASK #3
Serving
In volleyball the serve is used to play the ball into play. The player in the right back position serves the ball from behind the end line of his side of the court over the net and into the other side of the court. The serve marks the beginning of a rally and there are two main types of serve;
- Underarm Serve
- Overhead Serve
The Underarm Serve
The serve is executed by using an underhand swing to hit the ball over the net
- Stand facing the net with your non-hitting foot and hand forward
- Hold the ball at waist height with your non-hitting hand
- Put weight on your back foot
- Swing hitting hand backwards
- Toss the ball (up)
- Swing hitting hand forward
- Transfer weight of your front foot hit the ball with the heel of your palm
- Follow through the direction of the serve

The Overhead Serve
The overhead serve is executed by using an overhand swing to hit the ball over the net.
- Stand facing the net
- Your non-hitting foot and hand must face forward
Hold the ball at shoulder height with your non hitting hand
- Put your weight on your front foot
- Swing your hitting hand upward
- Transfer your weight to your back foot
- Toss ball above your head
- Keep looking at the ball
- Lead with your elbow as you swing your hitting hand forward
- Transfer your weight to your front foot
- Hit the ball at the highest point with an open hand
- Follow through in the direction of the serve
N.B: At the serve player go to the position and get ready to play

Any form of round and circle ball can use as aid towards practicing.
TASK #5
Rules in Volleyball
The Serve
- The serve must be taken behind the end line
- You can either use under arm serve or overhead serve
- Your Opponents must be able to see the ball before you serve
- The serve must be received with an underarm serve
- First game serve is determined by a toss of a coin.
- A team that loses the game serves first in the next game.
Rotation
- once a team wins a serve, each player in the team moves clockwise to the next playing position before the next serve
- the player in the right front position moves to the right back position and prepares to serve as the other players rotate in the same clockwise manner.
Playing Games
- A maximum of three hits per side is allowed
- A player cannot hit the ball twice in succession (block is not considered a hit)
- The ball may be played off the net on server when it is on its way over the net to the opposing team’s half of the court during a volley.
- A ball touching a boundary line is considered to be good and in play
