Sink or Float Adventure!

Introduction

Welcome to my WebQuest!

Sink or Float Interactive PPT by Traveling and Teaching | TPT

In this WebQuest, we'll explore the fascinating world of sink or float. In this interactive adventure, we'll discover which objects sink or float in water. Get ready to predict, experiment, and learn about the amazing properties of different materials.

Task

Activity Title: Design and Test: Paper boat and playdough ball.

Objectives:  Students will design, create, and test a paper boat and a playdough ball to determine whether they sink or float in water.

Task:

1. Paper boat: design or create a paper boat using folded paper. Predicts whether it sinks or floats.

2. Playdough Ball: Create a ball using playdough. Predicts whether it will sink or float.

3. Testing Time: Gently place both playdough ball and paper boat into a container of water.

4. Reflection: compare your predictions with the actual results. Explain why you think each object sank or floated.

Process

Step 1: Watch and Learn

  • Children will watch the video about sinking and floating.

Step 2: Create Your Objects

Children will Create two objects to test their predictions!

Floating boat

  • Watch as your teacher makes a paper boat and explains each step.
  • Follow along with your teacher's guidance to create your own paper boat.
  •  Ask questions and get help from your teacher as needed.
  • Make a prediction: Do you think your paper boat will sink or float? Why do you think that?

Sinking ball

  •  Watch as your teacher makes a playdough ball and explains each step.
  • Follow along with your teacher's guidance to create your own playdough ball
  • Ask questions and get help from your teacher as needed.
  • Make a prediction: Do you think your playdough ball will sink or float? Why do you think that?

Step 3:  Test Your Objects

  •  The teacher will fill a container with water
  • The teacher will tell children to gently place their boat in the water and observe what happens
  • The teacher will tell children to gently place their ball in the water and observe what happens

Step 4: Reflection

  • Students will now compare their predictions with the actual results. Explain why you think each object sank or floated.

Activity Title: Fun with Sink and Float

  Learning Objectives:

  •  Understanding the basic concept of sink and float
  • Make predictions based on observations
  • Develop critical thinking skills through experimentation.

Activity Description:

Today, we're going to have fun with science! We'll be learning about sink and float and, predicting whether different objects will sink or float in water. You'll get to create your own paper boat and playdough ball and test its buoyancy, and then record your observations.

Working in Groups

Children will be put in groups to work together, share ideas, and learn from each other.
