Siargao Islands Getaway

Introduction

With the Philippine government's closure order for Boracay Island's rehabilitation this year, tourists (local or international) have been considering other islands across the country. One of which is the Surfing Capital of the Philippines- the famous Siargao Islands.

Now, assuming you are a travel agent, and with the Boracay's current state, you want to promote and offer Siargao Islands for the tourists. Based on this WebQuest you will investigate factors that influence climate among others, and collect data necessary to design a promotional material for a Siargao Vacation.

Task

For you to attract tourists to visit Siargao Islands, you need to investigate factors that are influential for the tourists to stay in an island longer than expected. You must research about why and how Boracay Island among other top islands in the world sustain its presence being on the spotlight.

If you do a good job, who knows you will become a travel agent for real!

Process

To accomplish the task, you will need to do the following:

  1. Decide if you would like to work alone or with another travel agent (i.e., another student). (Please note that there will be no groups consisting of 3 students).
  2. Write on a piece of paper your name(s) and pass it to Ms. Alipao.
  3. For this WebQuest you will need to design a travel brochure or a video commercial (1-2 min) for a vacation in Siargao Islands. For your promotional material the following information needs to be included:
  • Mean annual temperature and precipitation for the area. -This will help others know if what they should pack (e.g., clothes). For example, should they bring a toque (winter hat) and mittens or just bikinis?
  • Demography. Provide a brief description about the population in Siargao including the average number of local and foreign tourists visiting the islands per month or year.
  • Top Tourist Spots. Describe the spots usually visited by the tourists.
  • Dos and/or Don'ts. Remember that while you are trying to promote Siargao as a great place to go for a holiday, there is a need to observe and respect the usual activities of the local residents. So, your travel brochure or commercial must at least give the tourists few ideas about what to do or what should not be done in the islands.

If you choose to:

  • Design a travel brochure, it should have images and should highlight the major points that you want to get across. Be sure to provide references.
  • Make a video commercial, you can use objects (i.e., visuals) and sound effects to promote the Siargao Islands as a place to be.

Evaluation

The promotional brochure, and or video commercial will be evaluated using the rubrics specific to the type of promotional material (brochure or commercial). Please see these rubrics shown below.
