This project is designed to allow year 5 primary students to apply and consolidate their knowledge relating to perimeter and area and would best be suited as the final three to four lessons to support, enhance and progress the teaching and learning trajectory of the perimeter and area mathematical concept.
This technology based resource allows students to engage in a learning environment that enables them to apply their knowledge of perimeter and area into a real life application encouraging their creativity.
This webquest would address the outcome and content descriptions for the Year 5 Australian Curriculum for Mathematics with particular focus on Measurement and Geometry. This webquest provides opportunities for students to calculate the perimeter and area of rectangles using appropriate units of measurement for length, area, and capacity. ACMMG1208 / ACMMG109.
It would also allow students to consolidate their knowledge with regards to Money and Financial mathematics as they are required to use problem solving skills when considering purchases and calculate costing’s within a given budget. ACMNA080.
House of your dreams webquest provides students with the opportunity to work across the proficiency strands. It builds students understanding of the perimeter and area concept by making real life connections and application of their knowledge. Students will be required to demonstrate their fluency by choosing appropriate units of measurement for calculations of perimeter and area and use problem solving and reasoning to calculate costing’s to remain within a given budget.
