Introduction
Imagine that Madison Central has a special exchange program that allows students like you to learn firsthand in Europe. Through this program, you have been given the opportunity to live and study in any European country. You've always dreamed about living in España... Now it's finally happening! You've been attending una escuela secundaria in España for eight months. You have met lots of awesome new people, but you really miss your amigos y familia back in Mississippi. You decide to invite your family and best friends to come visit, but you must convince them through a presentation that describes an exciting visit with you as the tour guide.
With this WebQuest you can experience the benefits of travelling without leaving home. This will not only deepen your knowledge of España, but will also help you learn all about the customs, architecture, food, and festivals of your chosen city. You will be very prepared to meet your guests and guide them! The provided websites will help you find necessary information for your presentation.
Task
You and your classmates task will be to each create a Travel Itenerary for your familia y amigos. Supported by mapas, fotografías and pictures of both the country and city that you have chosen, you must show the geografía, historia, y cultura. You will also research flights for your guests. Finally, you will make a written comparison of the main cultural differences you see between your home country Los Estados Unidos and España.
You must choose a Spanish town and investigate it based off the directions below.
Your project will consist of:
1. An attractive photographic presentation in PowerPoint with 15-24 slides. In addition to the cover slide you must include:
- A map of Spain that includes geographical features, your city's labeled location, and the rest of the Iberian Peninsula.
- Flight information including flight times, costs, and airports
- Pictures of monuments, important characters, attractions, festivals, sports teams, etc.
- Be creative and exciting!
- Your presentation should include a visit to a restaurant where family and friends can enjoy a customary dish. Since the visit is virtual, you will be the chef! You'll have to include the recipe, ingredients, and how it is made. Don't forget to include the dish and its recipe in your written composition!
- A final slide citing all sources used
2. A written 2 FULL Page English composition in Word. This should include:
- The geographical location of the city
- Languages spoken in the city
- History of the city
- Commentary on selected monuments
- Fiestas and traditions
- Recipes for a customary Spanish dish
- Optional: Famous musicians and artists from the area
In your composition, remember your audience - you are writing your friends and family to inform them of the rich culture in Spain and convince them to come visit. Make it exciting!
3. A short comparison in Word describing the differences between Spanish and American culture.
- This can be included in the same document as your informative composition
- Should be at least half a page
Remember, you want to make this trip interesting so your friends and family will be convinced to come visit! Through your presentations we will walk through the city's streets, experience exciting cultural celebrations, and discover interesting monuments and historical moments. It will be your job to clearly explain what your guests (and classmates!) are seeing.

Conclusion
Students should summarize the experience and reflect on the process to extend and increase learning. "You learn by doing, but you learn best by talking about what you have done!" After you have completed the assignment, participate in the project discussion board on Canvas. Be sure to talk about what you enjoyed in the project, what you disliked, how it helped you learn, and things that could be changed in the future to make the assignment better.
