Introduction

Scientists study about what cells do and how they help your body. Cells can do lots of things in the human body from storing energy to helping fight off diseases. Scientists study cells using an array of tools to put into the body and examine the cells. Cells also play different roles in our bodies. In this article we will talk about how and what cells do in our bodies.

Task

Your job in the WebQuest is to learn about current research involving different

types of cells. You will investigate how scientists studying diverse scientific topics

are adding to the current body of knowledge about cells. You also will explore

questions and answers about the roles that different cells play in our bodies. You

will answer a set of questions to demonstrate what you have learned. Once

you've explored information to increase your knowledge of developments in cell

studies and how cells work in the human body, you'll write a summary about one

of the topics you investigated. The purpose of this summary is to write about a

scientific topic using a style suited for posting on a Web site.

Process

Many scientists think that hormones and proteins that repair brain cells and protect the brain can delay or completely stop growth. It's usually older people who experience decreased blood flow to the brain. Decreased blood flow can damage and weaken memory and can lead to memory loss. But growing older is not the only reason for memory loss, stress and anxiety can also cause it. Scientists have reversed age memory loss in mice with a treatment that can be used on older people to prevent memory loss.

Mice were used in an experiment of how fat cells help with spinal cord injuries. The outcome was that they could become a replacement to treat the central nervous system. The patient or person who has the spinal cord injury their fat can help repair injury to the spinal cord.

A Schwann cell is a cell in the peripheral nervous system. Main roles are development, maintenance, function, and regeneration of peripheral nerves. Schwann cells protect the degeneration of nerves by blocking thrombin. Thrombin is a blood clotting protein that can damage nerves as well.

Young and immature frog eggs can restore human cells or adult human cells. Scientists or researchers were hoping to change adult cells into more of an immature state. Frog eggs are also easier to manipulate and handle which would make it way easier to reprogram.

The stomach does not digest itself mainly because it is lined with epithelial (epi-the-lial) cells which produce mucus. This is because it forms a barrier between the lining of the stomach and the contents. Digestive juices are also secreted by the stomach wall, from glands with no mucus barrier.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading this article hopefully you have a better understanding on what some cells do in the body. I have talked about how to stop memory loss, how fat cells can help with spinal cord injury, what a schwann cell is and what they do and lots of other things. Cells also play different roles in our bodies as i stated in this article. Scientists also use lots of different tools to study cells and are always creating more specifically for cells. Do you think there are cells helping your body with something important right now?
